What is an Internship?

"An internship is a pre-professional work experience that provides students, recent graduates, and those seeking to change careers with the opportunity to gain experience in a particular field. For students, internships also supplement academic classes and, in some cases, earn college credit. For recent graduates and individuals considering a career change, an internship is a way to try a new job without making a permanent commitment. An internship is a way to test the waters in a variety of career fields, to gain "real-life" experiences, and a way to decide on - or opt out - of a certain vocation."

What is the Internship Challenge?

The Internship Challenge is a program designed to increase the number of experiential learning opportunities for Loyola undergraduate students and provide an opportunity for alumni and parents to give back to Loyola. The Internship Challenge is a collaboration of The Career Center, Office of Alumni Relations, Corporate & Foundation Relations, Parent Relations, Sellinger School of Business and Management and Sophomore Initiatives.

Our goal is to place 200 students in a summer internship for 2010.

How can I get involved?

Alumni and parents can help with this effort by submitting an internship opportunity for summer 2010. The opportunity can be:

• Paid or unpaid
• Located in any state and/or industry
• Created just for Loyola students or be an internship program already in existence at your company
• Can take place between May and August 2010
